Our lovely tour to Lullymore!

On Wednesday 11th June we went to Lullymore in Co. Kildare. We had a wonderful day here. Kevin was our tour guide and he told us so much information about the history of Lullymore and the Bog of Allan.

Lullymore was once a monastery. People came here to study thousands of years ago. The Vikings never found it because it was hidden in the middle of the bog and the roads kept changing so it was like a secret place.

We sat in an area that used to be a hedge school. Inside in a crannóg we met a man named George. We also visited a famine house and a pot from the soup kitchen that was so big it could make 450 litres of soup every day.

We went on a train ride through the bog. We passed by geese, ducks, bog cotton and we passed around some turf. We walked on bridge made completely from recycled plastic. Kevin showed us a baby newt. He let us hold it. Some of us were brave and held it in our hands.

There was a wonderful fairy fort in Lullymore. We saw the white winged Fairy Queen. This is where there was a magic door into Tír na nÓg. It was a beautiful little village for the fairies.
